Aging Parents

Hello Everyone,
I know it's been a while since my last post. I have been busy trying
to handle life and all that lands on my plate. I've been working on
doing our taxes which are now done. Wheew!!! The other thing that
I have been dealing with is my aging dad. The header picture kind
of tells the story. A painting called "We Need To Talk" done by
Dyanne of DyanneParkerArt. Dyanne does some beautiful work.
Visit her shop if you get a chance. http://www.etsy.com/shop/DyanneParkerArt?ref=seller_info . My dad, I believe I have told you this once before,
can not read or write. He takes seven prescription medications. I
have come up with a system so that when he is getting low on his
meds he can let me know which ones I need to get refilled. All
his medication bottles are marked with a color and I have a note
card that I have written down the medication and coordinating
color. I get my dad all set with his meds and then a couple of months
pass by and he thinks that he can take care of it himself. He then
gets all of his meds so mixed up and starts feeling bad.
I wish that dad would just understand that he really needs my hand
and that he would just let me take his hand and guide him with his meds
that can make a difference between life and death. The next picture is
of aging hands that look fo frail to me. The aging hands come from
GaProps they have an etsy shop.http://www.etsy.com/shop/GaProps I once again took over and straightened out my dad and his meds.
It wasn't fun or easy. My dad did a lot of yelling at me and the
pharmasist. I had to do a lot of yelling back it wasn't easy for me
to do that but I had to get him to understand that dad can't have
other poeple help him like my uncle or my brother cause they
don't mark the bottles and when dad calls me to get him his
refills i'm not sure if what i'm getting refilled is right. My brother
who lives here in the same town is another story all together and
no help what so ever. A couple of dads pills almost look the same
and the color is almost the same on a couple of his pills but if you
put them next to each other you can actually see a little shade
difference and even a little size difference. I also left a note card
at my dads house and markers to mark the bottles now too.
If only dad and I could just come close to the next picture. To
sit and just have a calm conversation like to old friends. The
picture below comes from YdnarImaging another etsy shop.
Hopefully now I can get into working on something crafty now that
the spare room/ craft room is clean cause my son will be here this
weekend. I do have several projects in the works maybe now I can
get them finished and posted. I'm looking forward to seeing my middle
child. Maybe later this year I'll take a vacation and go visit my daughter.
A small break away from all this craziness.
Hope you are all having A Splendid Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's an expression that says: "No good deed goes unpunished". Apparently you're now finding out what that means! LOL But hang in there "Good Daughter"!! Even if he doesn't know it's for his own good...it is!!! Kudos to you for continuing to fight with him!!

Deb, If you only knew how much I really hate being the good daughter....LOL... I will continue because he is my dad and if I don't people will rob him blind and let him die. Just keep me in prayers because I really need a vacation right now.

What a touching story! It must be so hard for you to see him aging and needing help, and being the only one there to fight for him. I have a friend who has 3 other siblings, and she is the only one that makes his meals, shovels his walkways, gets his meds, ect. I hope it gets easier for you, and crafting for me, always lets my mind go somewhere peaceful. I hope you can do some crafting, and find your peaceful place. Have a nice visit with your son, and I would love to see some of your projects. Thanks for sharing, karen<3

Karen you are so sweet and kind with your words. I thank you for that. One of my my two brothers lives just a block away from me. All he cares about is himself and what he can get out of dad. I know I will enjoy my visit with my son because it is always good to see him and have him around even if it's just for a couple of days. I will make sure to post my projects. Have a great weekend!!!!!
